BACKGROUND:
Quarry Park is a 314 acre development that operated largely as a gravel extraction and wash site by Lafarge Canada since the mid-1950s. In 2006, Remington Development Corporation began redevelopment of the site, thus undertaking one of the largest and most ambitious brownfield reclamation projects ever in North America. During the five-phase plan, the non-descript gravel pit will be transformed into an active, sustainable community that will contribute to Calgary’s economic growth. Upon completion, there will be 1.7 million square feet of office; over 100,000 square feet of retail; and 2,300 homes.
Quarry Park has been specifically designed to promote a healthy environment and to contribute to the positive growth of Calgary. Extensive measures have been taken to not only protect the environment, but to enhance it. One of these measures involves an advanced and innovative solution for cleaning and filtering storm water as it drains into the Bow River. As well, considerable amounts of asphalt and concrete have been recycled for use at the development
Remington Development Corporation has applied the same extensive measures to its building standards. It’s head office will be Calgary’s first privately developed building to achieve LEED ® certification.
